New Year celebration..(18th of Jan)

The new year celebration in Hurstville is succeeded in both informing and entertaining people in a traditional Chinese way. It was with thermal temperature that day because we could feel that we were surrounded by the heat wave, mum carried her little umbrella walking around to prevent her sensitive skin from getting burnt.  We still enjoyed that hot afternoon, all the activities organised there, every performance generated the meaning of what a Chinese new year should be like as a whole.

I went to a stall where it says Chinese calligraphy once I saw. That's one of my long lost hobbies back then, I still remember when I was in primary, I was influenced by one of my best friends who has the best writing ever in my year and was chosen to join in the calligraphy club. Then she also got me in and we both started to win prizes in those competitions we went. It seems like it has been so long that I haven't touched the brush when I lost contact with her. Until then, we re-connected each other through another primary friend of ours, we talked about how much fun we used to have during the time when we shared our joy of winning the prizes. Today, that moment of doing calligraphy in new year in this foreign country the first time ever after 7 years, which was the last time I won my prize in my junior high. I had this mixed feeling telling me no matter how trivial things you might have forgotten after years gone by, you will still feel something once it re-emerges. Anyways, I interacted with the people at the stall, especially the guy who encouraged me to write two. It was quite funny when I asked him if I could use the smaller brush. He also suggested me to write 'I love earth' because I had no idea what to write in the first place, but I didn't want to write something too traditional. Then he also fan me the whole time as I said I was so hot standing there. Great time, great service lool

Getting lots of freebies is one of the traits we have as an Asian, hence mum and I lined up for everything that was possibly to get free stuff. For example, we joined the queue of that Telstra stall, with so many envelopes hanging there on the tree, where it says 100% prizes. I even went on the stage once as I was picked to answer the first question. I was such a cheater that raised up my hand one second before anyone else right after the host asked that question.

We walked around the entire street, took quite a few photos of those performance such as the kids' cat walk and that alluring dance which earned so much more applause than any other performances. And the dragon and lion dance was full of new year atmosphere. That person who carried the head of the lion went on the top of the pole and tied himself up with a piece of thick towel, doing all the hard movement as though he was down there on a flat surface, whilst my mum who watched down there worried about his safety.

I was still with quite a good mood though I got yelled at by her for a few times because she couldn't let go of small things. In the morning, I was shouted at by her because there was something wrong with the water tank in which she was scared it might cause explosion if it kept on leaking. lol I guess I can't be as intentive as her sometimes, she kept on telling me that I should be more aware of something without she noticing me. Guess my carelessness is one of the reasons has driven her crazy and made her to a mad woman.

Anyways winning the lotto thing is impossible but we still wanted to try our luck, so we did. And we went back to that stall almost 20 minutes before they announced the prize, we got nothing and left lol Btw I got her in trouble when I showed too much friendliness to this creepy old man in the first place, he only stopped stalking mum til I told him I've got a dad picking us up later at Hursy...>.> Strangers are too stalkerish these days...>.> Oh oh oh and the ice-cream there is so good...the handmade Chinese candy is heaps nicer to watch than taste...Just so much fun there happened 10 days ago...I am so sowieee....I wish I could have updated this post much earlier so I could remember more details... (a photo of all the freebies together...this is what I really call a Chinese new year...this is what it should be like during Chinese new year..)
